Post nationalisation in 1948 looking across to the 'up' Manchester platform. On the 'down' platform there are platform staff and porters' barrows. A goods or engineers train makes up steam by the station warehouse alongside a maintenance gang.

The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society (LYRS) was formed in 1950 and now has over 800 members here and overseas. It has been a registered charity since 2003 to further its aims “of disseminating information about the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway using historical information to educate and inform the community at large about this part of our national heritage.” The Society holds a large collection of photographs and drawings and other information about the L&YR in its archive for either historical research or railway modelling. Regular publications are the Magazine and LYR Focus in addition to occasional special books. For more information visit www.lyrs.org.uk.

LYRS 1470a - 1911. Aspinall 0-6-0ST, re-built Saddle Tank, No. 541 on the Rishworth Branch at Watsons Crossing with an engineers' ballast train working "the wrong line". Although built double track only one had been used commercially.
