Description
An account of the resource
A busy early 20th century scene on the up platform, perhaps waiting for a Blackpool special! The station on the Burnley Branch, the so called Copy Pit Line, from Todmorden was opened by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway with the line in 1849 and was closed in 1958. The crossover on the level crossing was lifted about the time of closure.

Description
An account of the resource
Serving the villages of Shepley and Shelley it opened, like other intermediate stations, with the line in 1850. Only one platform is seen here as its staggered platforms were separated by a road overbridge to the right of the photo. The station survived the Beeching cuts of the 1960s but was de-staffed in 1966 and the buildings subsequently demolished. In 1989 the line was largely reduced to single track but remains double track through the station here. It has been renamed ‘Shelley’.

Description
An account of the resource
Slaithwaite Station like other stations on the LNWR’s Huddersfield Manchester line along the Colne Valley opened with the line in 1849; it was enlarged in the mid-1890s when the line was increased from two to four tracks. It is seen here with well maintained platforms at an unknown date, but probably pre-1948 Nationalisation, or even earlier. The LNWR’s ringed semaphore signal on the slow lines does not appear on 1960s photos nor does the foot/barrow crossing but those later photos do show a standard semaphore signal at the end of the island platform. A steam locomotive is just discernible through the haze approaching the fast lines platforms.
The line reverted to double track in the mid-1960s and the station was closed under the Beeching axe in 1968 and the station buildings subsequently demolished and the platforms lifted. A new station was built on the site opening in 1982 with two platforms and bus stop style shelters.

Description
An account of the resource
In 1878 a branch from Stanningley on the GNR Leeds-Bradford ‘short line was opened up to the station here with an intermediate station at nearby Pudsey Lowtown. Then in 1893 a curve from Bramley to the Pudsey Branch was constructed which was then extended to Cutlers Junction at Laisterdyke via Dudley Hill creating both the Pudsey Loop and at Dudley Hill a connection to Low Moor and the Spen Valley. The branch from Stanningley was disconnected becoming a siding for Stanningley.
Seen here looking towards Greenside Tunnel the station closed in 1964 and the loop the following year once again leaving Pudsey without a railway in the town although a new station named New Pudsey was opened by BR in 1967 on the main Leeds-Bradford line but a mile from the town.

Description
An account of the resource
Repairing the fence on the unusual viaduct platform. The station is well above the valley floor resulting in the platforms running along the length of the viaduct but they also overhung it supported by massive brackets. The now disused station building itself is three storeys. The platforms have been extended eastwards and are no longer used over the viaduct and the overhang has been dismantled. The timber building here on the right, the signal and signal box and the yards beyond have now all gone.

Subject
The topic of the resource
LMS, LYR, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, M&LR, Manchester & Leeds Railway, Platform, Railway, Railway station, Railways, Signal Gantry, Signal box, Signals, Station, Station Building, Station Platform
Description
An account of the resource
The down platform buildings following closure of the station in September 1962. Apart from the signal box seen here which survived until 2009 the station was demolished in 1965.
The Second World War signal box was built by the LMS in 1941 replacing the L&YR 1878 box. The withdrawal of services between Halifax and Huddersfield in about 1970 resulted in the closure of the short section of line from Greetland Junction up to Dryclough Junction, on the outskirts of Halifax, which in turn resulted in Greetland Signal Box being taken out of service. Rail services were restored in 2000 following restoration of the permanent way between the two junctions and the Greetland box was brought back into use only to close in 2009 when signalling control was transferred to Healey Mills PSB. The Greetland box was subsequently demolished.
