The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society (LYRS) was formed in 1950 and now has over 800 members here and overseas. It has been a registered charity since 2003 to further its aims “of disseminating information about the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway using historical information to educate and inform the community at large about this part of our national heritage.” The Society holds a large collection of photographs and drawings and other information about the L&YR in its archive for either historical research or railway modelling. Regular publications are the Magazine and LYR Focus in addition to occasional special books. For more information visit www.lyrs.org.uk.

An account of the resource
LYRS2741. The Spen Valley Line connecting Mirfield on the Calder Valley Main Line with Low Moor opened in July 1848 and the line between Low Moor and Bradford opened in May 1850. The first station here opened at the same time as the line and was re-built in 1884/5 as seen here in L&YR days looking towards Low Moor. The station and line closed in 1965 and the track bed now forms the Spen Valley Greenway.

LYRS 2724 - The Spen Valley Line connecting Mirfield on the Calder Valley Main Line with Low Moor opened in July 1848 and the line between Low Moor and Bradford opened in May 1850. The 1848 station seen here looking towards Mirfield was replaced by a new station with an island platform in 1888 a little to the north and the old station became the goods office. The station and line closed in 1965 and the track was subsequently lifted.

Description
An account of the resource
An important Junction station in its day not least due the proximity of the vast Low Moor Iron Works. Whilst the junction on the Halifax - Bradford with the Spen Valley line opened in 1850 the station had opened a couple of years earlier. The station closed in 1965 by which time the iron workd had long been in decline. As of late 2015 work is in progress to re-open a station. The junction closed in 1981.
