Description
St Luke’s Hospital was built around 1897 as the Poor Law Union infirmary for the sick poor in Halifax. During World War I it became a military hospital. After the abolition of the Poor Laws in the 1920s the hospital was eventually transferred to the local Council. After the formation of the National Health Service in 1948 it became Halifax General Hospital.
