Healey House Station. L&YR Meltham Branch - DNT00291
Gas Lamps, L&YR, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, Penistone Line, Platform, Railway, Railway signage, Railway station, Station Buildings, Station Staff, Tunnel
The station, seen here in 1910, is named after the nearby large late 18th century house of that name. Reputedly the station was built to serve close-by Crosland Mill and reputedly was also used by the occupiers of Healey House and Crosland Hall for private trains to take them for their annual grouse shooting in Scotland.
Like the other two stations on the single track 31/2 mile Branch it opened for passengers in 1869 and closing in 1949. The line fully closed in 1965.

Looking in the Halifax direction with the north portal of Bowling Tunnel all but hidden by smoke. The line in the centre continues to Bradford Exchange and the line going off to the left is the Bowling Curve to Laisterdyke where it joined the Bradford – Leeds ‘short line. Until it closed to passenger traffic in 1961 Manchester Victoria – Leeds expresses, amongst some other Leeds services, used it to by-pass Bradford. Below the signal gantry is the site of Bowling Station which opened in 1902 and closed in 1951.

Elland Station - LYR00303
Elland Station, Foot Crossing, Gas Lamp, LYR, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, Platform, Railway, Railway station, Platform, Tunnel, Tunnel Portal
The first station at Elland on the Manchester & Leeds Railway opened in March 1841 close to the tunnel east portal but was replaced in 1865 by the one seen here. A third island platform station was built in 1894. The station and goods yard closed in 1962 but there remains hope that it could re-open.
The bridge across the line is called Billy Mellor Bridge and appears to link Elland Hall with Plains Lane.
