Mr Lloyd Greenwood (d. 2005 aged 80) was affectionately known as "Mr Hebden Bridge” on account of his knowledge of the area, its history, its people and events. Born in Hebden Bridge he attended Stubbings School and the former Central Street Middle School. A railway worker for 44 years he was called up in 1943 and was involved with hospital trains and troop movements. He was later shipped off to Burma to help restore the shattered transport system. Historic Homes of Yorkshire collection
Description
An account of the resource
This Album contains images with notes on the Historic Homes of Yorkshire, a series of lectures first given to the Hebden Bridge Literary & Scientific Society by Mr. George Hepworth around 1916. An architect by profession, in 1894 he was a founder member of the Brighouse Photographic Society, and became a much sort after photographic artist and lanternist (someone who operates a magic lantern). He achieved wide popularity with his book 'Brighouse, its Scenery and Antiquities'; as only a 100 copies were published it has become something of a collectors item. The lectures take the form of a guided tour of the properties, and the language of the original notes has been maintained.

See Exhibit

Description
An account of the resource
Slide 9: It is a fine apartment, and very characteristic of the period at which it was built, namely the early part of the 18th century. The furniture in the room has a substantial and homely character about it. Over the mantle-piece are the arms of the Huttons, who have been settled here since the beginning of the 17th century, and removed thence from Warburton, in Lancashire. The Hutton family has been one of the most remarkable families in England, having furnished to the church two Archbishops.

Slide 21 - The private Chapel which we now enter is a marvel of decoration. The lower part of the walls is panelled, filled in with beautifully executed figure subjects; the upper portion is painted, as are the windows, by Kemp. The choir stalls are of oak and jasper and other precious stones are introduced in the reredos. There is also a very fine toned organ in the Chapel.
