Title
Hebden Bridge - Memorial Garden - ALC00352
Description
The Memorial Gardens on the official opening day 10th August 1938, many years after neighbouring War Memorials had been opened.
The public had subscribed £5,000 for the scheme which had been instigated by Cllr Arthur Holt and his daughter, Miss Muriel R. Holt. The gates and railings were requisitioned for war use in 1942. Cllr Holt replaced the railings 6 years later in memory of his daughter who had performed the opening ceremony but had died in 1948.
The bowling green was moved from this site over the canal to Calder Holmes.
