Description
On 5th September 1905, this engine was involved in a tragic accident at Walshaw Dean where the stoker, James Taylor was scalded by steam from the boiler and later died. The engine, driven by John Leech had left the rails and fallen on its side whilst traversing the gantry at the middle bank of the reservoirs. The couple on the engine, possibly intending to have a picnic judging by the hamper, are not identified but third from left is possibly George Thomas Smith. The exact location is not known. Postcard.
