NAME: HOYLE BOTTOM or SQUARE MILL

LOCATION: Moor Bottom

REF: LD 2

CONDITION: Fully used

APPROX DATE OF SITE AND BUILDINGS: Late 19C

DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: A long, predominately two storey stone built mill with date stone 1872. This refers to a period of rebuilding and alterations, which were continued C1900. The original mill dates from the early 19C, being first recorded in 1817. A dam lies 150 yds above the site, and was used to power a water turbine. It replaced an earlier dam on the west side of the mill.

PRESENT USE AND POTENTIAL: The mill has been converted into a chicken farm, and is fully used as such. There have been a number of modern alterations, with windows blocked and boarded up
