Title

Mytholmbridge - HPC00331

Description

NAME: MYTHOLMBRIDGE MILLS

LOCATION: Mytholm Bridge

REF: HU 29

GRID REF: 153 102

CLASSIFICATION: C

CONDITION: Semi used

APPROX DATE OF SITE AND BUILDINGS: Mid 19C-early 20C (site earlier)

DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: This mill probably stands on the site of an old fulling mill, close to the confluence of Jackson Bridge Dike with the Holme. Parts of the long mill race can still be traced. The present main building dates from 1864 – three storey, stone built, with small tower and new roof (upper stories may have been demolished). Also small engine house, but chimney remains. Various later 19C/early 20C additions and extensions on either side of the lane. Also known as Upper Mytholmbridge Mill.

PRESENT USE AND POTENTIAL: The mill is partly used by a rug/textile manufacturer and one section is now a wood yard. Some parts of the site are somewhat run down, but improvements and repairs appear to be taking place.
