Guided walks around Hebden Bridge and Hardcastle Crags
Description
An account of the resource
Wild Rose Heritage and Arts, now part of Pennine Heritage Ltd, was a community group which took its name from the area in which we are located – the valley (“den”) of the wild rose (“Heb”) – Hebden Bridge. They began as an oral history project, recording the memories of elderly people who told them about their lives growing up in the local valleys. They then expanded their activities and focus, working with a variety of age groups to understand the ways in which people both change, and are changed by, the places in which they live and work.
As part of the project a series of guided walks were organised.

The topic of the resource

Swine Market, Halifax, late 1960s? - CBC06023
Subject
The topic of the resource
Car park, Halifax, Mill, Places, Road, Transport
Description
An account of the resource
Although it is hard to be certain the sign on the building at the left of the picture appears to suggest that the building is the Grand Junction Hotel which was closed in 1968 and demolished in 1971. If this is correct then this will be the area known as Swine Market. The advertising hoarding on the far right refers to 625 line television which was introduced in the late 1960s. It is very likely that all these buildings have since been demolished.

Description
An account of the resource
Mr Lloyd Greenwood (d. 2005 aged 80) was affectionately known as "Mr Hebden Bridge” on account of his knowledge of the area, its history, its people and events. Born in Hebden Bridge he attended Stubbings School and the former Central Street Middle School. A railway worker for 44 years he was called up in 1943 and was involved with hospital trains and troop movements. He was later shipped off to Burma to help restore the shattered transport system. He was well known for his talks and slide shows to local organisations throughout Calderdale. He was a trustee of the Alice Longstaff Gallery Collection and together with Frank Woolrych, helped stage many popular exhibitions of photographs in the Hebden Bridge Tourist Information Office.
