Kirkburton Station was the terminus of the LNWR’s Kirkburton Branch and opened with the Branch in 1867. The line and station closed to passenger traffic in 1930 when the LNWR’s successor, the LMS, obtained a half share in the Huddersfield Corporation’s bus service. The line remained open for goods traffic until 1965 when it closed fully.

Todmorden RDC horse drawn water cart . Todmorden RDC was created in 1894 the and name changed to Hepton RDC in the 1930s.
The picture shows the supply of water to the contractors working on the construction of the Walshaw Dean reservoirs. Water would have been needed for the steam engines as well as for the inhabitants of Dawson city, the hunted encampment used by the workforce.
A narrow gauge railway was built between Dawson City at White Hill Nook, Heptonstall to the site of the reservoirs.

The southern terminus of the single track Keighley & Worth Valley Railway opened in 1867 at the same time as the line, seen here looking towards Keighley possibly in MR days. The line was operated by the MR from the start and acquired by them in 1881. The station closed in 1961 and the line in 1962 re-opening as a heritage railway in 1968.

The first station at Elland opened in October 1840 at the same time as the section of the M&LR between Hebden Bridge and Normanton and was immediately to the east of Elland Tunnel. It was rebuilt a little to the east in 1865 and then again in 1894 as an island station as seen here in LMS days. It was closed in 1962. It had been hoped that a station would have been reopened in 2000 when passenger services were reintroduced on this section of the line.

The station warehouse, which was built in stages between 1877 and 1884, is seen here in 1967 following withdrawal of goods facilities the previous year. The goods yard is in process of being dismantled. The warehouse was let for general storage but was demolished following serious fire damage in 1969. The site is now the station car park.

View from the north hillside across Station Road to the coal drops and the goods yard. Date unknown but the station closed in 1962 and the goods yard in 1965. The only evidence there once was a station here is in the name 'Station Road'.
The parish church on the hill opposite was declared redundant and demolished in the 1970s and the two mills with their chimneys have also now gone.

LYRS 2685 - The remains of Elland Station in about 1964. The first station opened near the tunnel in 1841 but this, the third station, with its island platform dated from 1894. The station and goods yard closed in 1962 and the station warehouse on the right was demolished in 1998. The mill on the left has now been converted into appartments.
