An account of the resource
Accident at Stansfield Hall on 5th December 1904. Wagons on a heavy goods train broke loose coming down from Copy Pit to Portsmouth and the train divided into two parts. When the engines stopped at Stansfield Hall signals the detached wagons speeding down the incline crashed into them. As well as the wagons the station platform and a stone pier on the footbridge were damaged. Several wagons crashed down the embankment into the garden of a house below.

LYRS 8707 - The Box at the Junction of the Stansfield or Todmorden Curve on the Todmorden - Burnley line with the spur up from Hall Royd Junction on the Leeds - Manchester line.
Passenger traffic over the Stansfield Curve ceased in 1965 and the track was part lifted in 1973 and Yorkshire to Burnley trains by-pass Todmorden but it is anticipated that the Curve will be re-instated in 2013/14.

LYRS6018. A confusing photo! The tracks in the centre curving off to the right form the Stansfield or Todmorden Curve heading to Stansfield Hall Junction on the 'Copy Pit' line to Burnley. The line in the foreground is the spur from Hall Royd Junction on the Leeds-Manchester line up to Stansfield Hall Junction to meet the Curve.
