Marsden Tenterposts - HPC00173
Photo taken c1985. In 2011 a stonemason began work on 10 tenter posts in Marsden.
The Grade II listed structures at Crowther Bruce Mill Road had been left to deteriorate for many years. Most tenter posts were made of wood and have long since rotted away, they were used to stretch and dry washed cloth in textile mills.
The term “on tenterhooks” comes from the metal hooks attached to the posts.
