The little boy at the front with the hat on is Tom Birch; he and his brother Jack went to play one day in the hay in a Dutch barn between Goose Gate and Lower Callis. They did not realise that there was a fire in the middle of the hay which had spontaneously combusted, the boys fell into the fire and Tom was badly burnt, but his brother did not survive.</text>
