                <text>The Hebden Bridge Local History Society was formed in 1949 and is a section of the Hebden Bridge Literary &amp; Scientific Society which celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2005.&#13;
&#13;
The Society organises a winter programme from September to March on Wednesdays at the Methodist Church in Hebden Bridge at 7:30 pm.&#13;
&#13;
The Society's archive and library is housed at The Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge. The collection is available for members to use on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of each month.&#13;
&#13;
Donations to the archive are welcomed. Contributions of photos and documents, even from the recent past. &#13;
&#13;
A catalogue of the Society's is available on their website..&#13;
&#13;
One of the many projects the Society is currently working on is the Gibson and Sutcliffe papers. The materials had been lying in a room at Croft House in Hebden Bridge, undisturbed for over 50 years. One collection belonged to Abraham Gibson of Greenwood Lee and the other to Sutcliffe &amp; Sutcliffe, architects.&#13;
&#13;
Members of the Society are also transcribing gravestones in Heptonstall churchyard, providing easy access to local information for genealogists.</text>

              <text>It was decided to open a subscription list for a new church following extensive storm damage to the old church in 1847. The foundation stone for the new church was laid on 15th May, 1850; the completed church being consecrated on 26th October, 1854, by the Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Rev Dr Longley, and dedicated to St Thomas the Aposlte. The building is an excellent example of Victorian Gothic architecture. It cost £6,666.&#13;
&#13;
The church was reordered in 1964 through a legacy of Mr Abraham Gibson.</text>
