                <text>The Hebden Bridge Local History Society was formed in 1949 and is a section of the Hebden Bridge Literary &amp; Scientific Society which celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2005.&#13;
&#13;
The Society organises a winter programme from September to March on Wednesdays at the Methodist Church in Hebden Bridge at 7:30 pm.&#13;
&#13;
The Society's archive and library is housed at The Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge. The collection is available for members to use on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of each month.&#13;
&#13;
Donations to the archive are welcomed. Contributions of photos and documents, even from the recent past. &#13;
&#13;
A catalogue of the Society's is available on their website..&#13;
&#13;
One of the many projects the Society is currently working on is the Gibson and Sutcliffe papers. The materials had been lying in a room at Croft House in Hebden Bridge, undisturbed for over 50 years. One collection belonged to Abraham Gibson of Greenwood Lee and the other to Sutcliffe &amp; Sutcliffe, architects.&#13;
&#13;
Members of the Society are also transcribing gravestones in Heptonstall churchyard, providing easy access to local information for genealogists.</text>

              <text>Man with a donkey on the tow path where it inclines up to the bridge at the top of Holme Street. The river is below the wall which today is replaced by railings around the children's playground. The tow path has now been re-aligned at this point. Above is the West Signal Box on the Manchester and Leeds Railway which controlled the junction into the goods yard; the box was de-commissioned in 1934 and subsequently demolished. Above the box terraced houses off Palace House Road, from right to left York Street, Norfolk Street and Guildford Street.</text>
