Hawksclough Mill, Mytholmroyd - HPC00201

Description

NAME: HAWKSCLOUGH MILL
LOCATION: Hawksclough
REF: CD123
GRID REF: 007 264
CLASSIFICATION: D
CONDITION: Fully used
APPROX DATE OF SITE AND BUILDING: Late 19C (site earlier)
DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: The main part of the mill has disappeared and the site had been landscaped. The only remaining part is a small, late 19C, three storey building on the other side of the main road, with an adjoining row of older cottages. The original mill, a cotton manufacturing concern, was built pre 1850, but was probably not water-powered.
PRESENT USE AND POTENTIAL: The remaining part of the mill is used by a textiles firm, and is suited for a light industrial use.

Photo taken c1985.

The mill was built on the narrow strip of land between the road and the river.
