Description

NAME: MODERNA MILLS
LOCATION: Green Hill Estate, Mytholmroyd
REF: CD 129
GRID REF: 016 259
CLASSIFICATION: D
CONDITION: Mostly used
APPROX DATE OF SITE AND BUILDINGS: Late 19C/20C
DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: Now part of a modern industrial estate on the edge of Mytholmroyd. There is a two storey stone building, part demolished at the eastern end, close to the canal. Small chimney and modern additions. This was possibly part of Green Hill Mill, which was probably first built c1860s. Just down stream is a 20C three story brick building. This may be part of, or on the site of, Albert Mills (recorded as a woollen mill, c1920).
PRESENT USE AND POTENTIAL: Now known collectively as Moderna Mills. A few companies are based here including a textile waste concern, freight brokers and what appears to be a pipe making operation.

Photo taken c1985.
