Title
Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags - DMC00199
Description
Gibson Mill was built around 1800, is situated within Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge. The mill was driven by a water wheel and produced cotton cloth up until 1890. In the early 1900s, the mill began to be used as a leisure facility offering a dance hall, roller-skating rink, refreshment kiosks and a restaurant. On the mill pond, boating could also be enjoyed. The mill slipped into disuse after the Second World War, and was acquired by the National Trust in 1950.
Using funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Yorkshire Forward, the mill and the adjacent cottages have now been restored. It was officially re-opened on Saturday, 24 September 2005. It now houses a visitor and education centre.
