Barkisland Hall

Barkisland Hall Ripponden is a Grade I listed house built by John Gledhill in 1638. It is constructed in stone in three storeys to an F-shaped floor plan and is considered by many as one of the finest prodigy houses of Calderdale. It was bought in 1967 by Joseph Kagan (later Lord) as accommodation for visitors to his company. Manufacturers of the famous Gannex coat, production ceased in 1995. Please note, the house is privately owned and is not open to the public. The notes accompanying each photograph are from a series of lectures first given to the Hebden Bridge Literary & Scientific Society by Mr. George Hepworth around 1916.
