Between Bridge Lanes and Heptonstall Road was a busy community, home to so many, yet passed by thousands each year as they travel up or down this busy road and see only a grassy slope with trees and bushes.
The rear of buildings on High Street, between Halifax Lane and Stocks Lane. The building left of centre was formerly the Murgatroyd Arms, later Church House and now residential.

High Street but not as in Main Street but as in 'high'. It ran parallel to Bridge Lanes below Heptonstall Road and was demolished at the same time as Bridge Lanes in 1963/4.
The steps, which are still there, lead from Bridge Lanes up to the now demolished High Street. There used to be a small stream that ran down the hillside which was also known as the cuckoo.
