Pismire Hill is said to have got its name from the smell of the soiled straw from the stables of the Royal Oak Hotel.

Pictured outside the Dusty Miller this is reputed to be the last working horse on the streets of Hebden Royd, although horses were worked on some farms in the area for several more years.

A firm of Blenders and Slitherers oppupied the smaller premises for a number of years. The mill was finally demolished in 2013 and the site developed for housing.
