Machpelah is on the right, Croft House in centre of the picture, Crossley Mill on the left, behind the chimney of which can be seen Queen's Terrace on Heptonstall Road.
The back of Crossley Mill is on the left foreground, next to it are the 3 storey houses of New Road. Opposite them you can just make out the weaver's windows of Machpelah.
The white painted pub is the Shoulder of Mutton, behind which is the decorative end of the Council Offices. The chimney is on Bridge Mill, and behind the shop with the blind, for many years Bonsall's hardware sop, is Linden Mill..

The Methodist Church hall on Market Street is on the left of the picture and opposite it is Hangingroyd Road. St Johns Church and the lower Birchcliffe houses are on the right.
This 400 yards long cobbled route was originally the packhorse trail between Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge. This in turn was part of the route from Burnley to Halifax.
