Unknown locomotive heading from Mytholmroyd towards Hebden Bridge. The line had been increased to four tracks between Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd in 1906 but reverted to two tracks in the 1980s.
Postcard with 1938 postmark. Still a busy small mill town! Scarbottom Mill with its mill dam is to the right of centre, with Thornber's poultry sheds to the left. On the skyline towards the left is Midgley Methodist Chapel.
Looking over to the Birchcliffe hillside with the distinctive arches of Stubbings School in the centre. To the left of the school is St John's C of E Church consecrated in 1931 but closed in the 1980s.
Probably early 20th century picture, before the mill was converted for dancing and refreshments. Later photos have windows let into the roof, possibly to light the dance hall.

In the 1960's before Moderna Blankets a company called D.E.Stuttard Ltd made oil fired boilers called 'Desomatic'. R Thomas 01422 846392 as a brass plate which was attached to the boilers. Ref: 037.
